Patients Who Suffer From Migraines Are More Likely To Have Depression
Patient with chronic headache, especially migraine disorder, are more predisposed to suffer from depression, feel worn-out, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical research involved 1300 people who buy cymbalta online at headache clinics in five different countries. Of the man tested, 677 reported occasional headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 343 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the women were tested with migraines.
The study found patients with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms related to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among patient tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Atypical Depression increased 32-fold if the patient also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms can incite or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Manic Depression would heighten pain perception,” said clinical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Indifferent of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Depression, psychiatric disease such as Manic Depression complicates headache management and can excite poorer results for headache management,” said Tietjen.
The clinical investigation was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which values 18 million American woman are affected by headache.
